My artwork deals with ideas of memory, relationships and
untold stories. I find inspiration for my work in family snapshots, natural and
manmade objects, and found photographs.
My most recent work compares found objects with found
photographs. I layer, pair and compose objects with photographs.
I started a collection of found photographs and postcards
several years ago. Every place I traveled I would come across old black and
white photographs of people, families and women dressed to the era. I was drawn
to these photos, there was something genuine and beautiful in these snapshots
of people I never knew but there was also sadness in finding them. Questions
filled my mind about who were these people and why they were not in hands of
the person pictured or passed down to their families. The more photos I found,
the more I noticed similarities between the photos…lovely posed women, couples
showing affection, women holding their babies in front their first home,
brothers and sisters, best friends and people with their pets.
I want my work to address issues of unification. The human
condition is timeless, there is a universal pull that unites us all, our need
to love and be loved. I hope everyone knows the feeling of being loved and
loving others, whether it is a friendship love, family love or a romantic love.
We create our own personal histories that we document with photographs and journals and letters.
